Bielo
Weaving of Excellence at La Llacuna
Just an hour's drive from Barcelona, nestled in the mountains of La Llacuna, a village of less than 900 souls, lies Bielo, a treasure trove of the European textile industry. Here, in the heart of this rural region, the Puig Romeu family has been perpetuating their unique knitting expertise since the 1980s. This small family-run factory became a key player in luxury fashion thanks to a chance encounter with Japanese craftsmanship, transforming their productions into a remarkable fusion of Catalan and Japanese traditions.
Bielo: the Catalan master craftsman of knitting
Josep Puig Romeu, heir and visionary, has launched the Bielo brand, which embodies this cultural alchemy. Each Bielo collection is characterised by a bold exploration of textures and shapes, offering pieces in dry cotton, linen, silk and fine cashmere. Inspired by the natural surroundings, the latest collection, The Bather, evokes the soothing and revitalising sensation of water, with vibrant colours reminiscent of the work of Peter Doig.
At Bielo, weaving becomes an art, where tradition and innovation meet to create garments that capture the imagination and reflect the wild beauty of the Catalan mountains.
