Some vocabulary
Breweries (cervecerías), as the name implies, serve beer, but we can usually find craft or special beers, as well as all kinds of drinks, soft drinks, coffees, wines, etc., as well as bars. For a full meal, we will go to a restaurant and for a seafood meal to a marisquería. The inn or hostel offers family cuisine. The bodega is a wine bar, a chiringuito is a bar restaurant by the sea. The grangas are a kind of small cafes, where the Catalans come to enjoy breakfast, or tea or afternoon snack. Finally, the Paradores, considered as luxury hotels, are surprisingly affordable with respect to its restoration.
In Barcelona, lunch is usually served from 2 pm to 4 pm and dinner from 9 pm to midnight. Restaurants in Barcelona often close on Sunday evenings and Mondays.

I just returned from Barcelona last week. It is an amazing city with many places to eat. You should definitely go to Cafe Catalunya in the city centre. Their set menu changes each day and the food is great and affordable. You should also visit Tarragona, it is only an hour train ride away!

Places to absolutely AVOID - Food served = poison - Michael Constable (5 Mar 2013 - 07:45)
If you visit Barcelona and get around the famous Gaudi's church called Sagrada Familia, it is recommended for your health and safety to avoid eating or drinking at the nearby restaurants called Picasso, Trabucaire and Baviera all owned by the same owner. The food served is not fresh and comes from frozen packages, cooked and left in a fridge for days until someone orders and simply get placed in a micro wave. Tapas are made of left overs from other customers plates and all this at a very high price aimed to rip off tourists.
It is highly recommended to avoid those places.
Eating out - times - Stephy (28 Feb 2013 - 09:30)
In Barcelona lunch is served from 1:30pm until 4pm and dinner from 9pm to 11pm.
Is this true of all places? We are planning on coming for a long weekend - will we struggle to find places to eat on a Sunday/Monday?
Very worried
Calçotada!! - Joel (27 Feb 2013 - 08:30)
Why are people in Barcelona so crazy about getting together and eating calçots, which are really nothing more than scorched green onions? Discover it at www.canmanel.es

Papa Serra cooking classes and clandestine dining - Erwin (5 Sep 2012 - 09:30)
Simply memorable experience. I found Papa Serra after looking for a cooking class in Barcelona - the class was amazing and we learnt to cook some amazing food with the chef.
Then he told us about a restaurant he had started and after tasting the food during the class, my wife and I said yes immediately and reserved a seat for the following night.
We were not disappointed. The atmosphere, food, wine and service was just outstanding. We tried about 10 dishes as part of a fixed menu matched with wine for a very reasonable €70.
There were at least 10 dishes - each as delicious as the last and flavours that were just so fresh and balanced. I remember the dessert expecially - a chocolate and smoked paprika tart - wow. And then an almond soup with shaved frozen grapes. And something with bee pollen and wild thyme. Still thinking about it : )
This is Spanish food but so different from what you will find on Las Ramblas! A brilliant experience and one we will be back for next time we are in Barcelona!
bodega biarritz 1881 - emmanuel (28 Aug 2012 - 09:00)
bonjour ,

restaurant Casanova 46 (46 rue casanova) - Jean Michel pascale/ région parisienne (12 Mar 2012 - 09:30)

Where to eat/ have dinner in Barcelona - dAvid (10 Dec 2011 - 07:45)

Lately I've been searching for a place to eat healthy food at a good price, is not that I've become vegetarian but as I'm getting older I pay more attention to what I eat. I was also looking for a place with exotic flavours and at the neightbourhood of Gracia I found the other day a place like this:
www.lavietnamita.com
I like the concept, sharing the table, selfservice, good prices. And the most important thing healthy and tasteful food. I have to say that they don't have a big menu, not many things to choose but what I tried was delightful. So I recommend it with no doubt. Bon profit ¡¡
Good restaurant - Alisha (31 Aug 2011 - 09:45)
Vintage Restaurant in Barcelona has an exquisite and elaborate menu of original dishes and desserts complete with an excellent range of wines.

mangiare a barcellona - yuri (18 Aug 2011 - 00:45)

One of the best restaurants in spain... no doubt!!! I am very kean on high level "Michellin"-food. Gresca has no star... yet. But flavour and technic is amazing, service is great and the prizes unbelievable. I've done two tasting menus and a lot of other orders and nothing is questionable - everything is spot on.
