Els Quatre Gats

Els Quatre Gats - Barcelona

If you think a waiting queue to enter a restaurant is an undeniable sign of quality, be prepared to loose your faith in humanity in front of this disaster.

The to” Avoid Strongly list’ might be renamed the “shit list” because of Els Quatre Gats. There is no single Catalan to be found in this traditional site serving highway restaurant food to busloads of bargain trippers (your concierge may be one of them).

All you get from the underpaid Asian staff is hate. They hate tourists, they hate their job and they hate you! Harassed servers serving can asparagus topped with can

Tartar sauce, then bacalao cooked a la plancha smelling what was cooked before.. Two elderly musicians playing sad tunes, so old fashioned you'll believe Franco's still alive. If Picasso really hung out here it was probably during an unknown period of his life: the black period.

Don’t go: expensive and depressing, a disgrace for Barcelona.

The Quatre Gats is a tourist trap that should be avoided, like many places on Earth. In Barsa, try Monvinic or Vinya del Senyor for a wine and some light food. More serious eats go to Moments or Lasarte.

How to register a foreign vehicle for ZBE
Citat from the information page "Therefore, all foreign vehicles must be registered before they can drive in the low emission zones. Only vehicles registered in Spain are required to wear the sticker. Foreign vehicles do not require a physical sticker to be affixed to the windscreen. The online "validated" status is sufficient to prove that your vehicle is registered and authorized to circulate in the zone" How to register a foreign vehicle is not given anywhere including in the given link to https://www.amb.cat/s/web/mobilitat/mobilitat-sostenible/zbe.html

@10e
Hello 10e, In a day and a half, you can visit 3 monuments, which is already very good, the best option for you would be the Barcelona City Pass or 3 Houses of Gaudí. Both offer great flexibility and convenience for short visits. You can find all the information you need on this page. Enjoy your time in Barcelona!

@WS8 Passenger
Hello WS8 Passenger, If you're coming to collect a delayed bag from Groundforce at Terminal 1 of Barcelona-El Prat Airport, you'll need to go to their baggage service office, also known as the Lost & Found office. Please go to: The Groundforce office for delayed baggage is located in Terminal 1, near the baggage claim area. Once you enter the arrivals hall, follow signs for "Baggage Claim" and "Lost & Found." It’s advisable to check the operating hours in advance, as they may vary depending on the day. If you have any trouble finding the office, airport staff can help direct you to the right location. Safe travels, and I hope you get your bag back soon!

@Jackie
Hello Jackie, It looks like you're asking if the Aerobus in Barcelona can take you to Malgrat de Mar. Unfortunately, the Aerobus service only connects the Barcelona Airport (El Prat) with the city center of Barcelona, making stops at places like Plaça Catalunya and Plaça Espanya. It doesn't go to Malgrat de Mar, which is a town located along the coast, about 60 kilometers northeast of Barcelona. To get to Malgrat de Mar from Barcelona Airport, here are your options: Train: You can take the Renfe Cercanías (R2 Nord line) from the airport to Barcelona-Sants or Barcelona-Passeig de Gràcia, and then transfer to the R1 line, which goes directly to Malgrat de Mar. Bus: There are some intercity buses that can take you there, though they might not be direct from the airport. Taxi or Private Transfer: This is the most convenient option but also the most expensive. You can arrange a taxi or a private transfer service from the airport directly to Malgrat de Mar. For train times and more detailed travel info, the Renfe website is very helpful, or you could use Google Maps to plan your journey. Enjoy your trip!

  2. Els Quatre Gats - Charis Vigo (21 Nov 2018 - 09:26)

    The staff were so rude that we didn't stay and went elsewhere. All the more sad as this cafe used to be a legend in my Catalan family and I had wanted to show it to my own children. They were chagrined and embarrassed at how sarcastic and dismissive the waitress was.

  3. Elegance under minimums. - Ariel B (18 May 2016 - 08:02)

    With the idea of entertaining to part of our family visiting the city, we went dinner to "Els 4 gats", one of the classic restaurants of the old Barcelona. After trying some very correct “tapas” for which we paid €200 (for seven persons) the personnel of the establishment 'invited' us to leave a review on internet, giving each of us a card with some instructions. Surprised for what it looked to us a slightly elegant attitude of the establishment, one of us suggested with irony that since they were asking us to write a (positive) review for the establishment they could have at least the detail of inviting ourselves to a glass of wine-cellar or something like that.
    The waiter, with all education, said to us that the director would not allow him such a thing, but that in a moment he would bring us a “chupito de orujo” (a local drink shot), a practice more than usual in all kinds of bars and restaurants after a dinner. Within a few minutes the waiter returns and comments to us that, unfortunately, the direction of the establishment does not allow him to have attentions of this type with the clients. We look at him incredulous. I think it is the first time that I see something like that in Spain. Knowing that, as much, the cost of a “chupito” does not exceed them €0,15, or what is the same thing €1,05 for seven “chupitos”, that is to say 0,005 % of paid by the dinner, one comes to the conclusion of which it is not a matter of costs, but of a total lack of empathy and interest for the customer. A very sad fact when we’re talking about an establishment that years ago was a Barcelona’s classic. Now you know, things have changed: if you want to see for yourselves how far decadence and speculation is arriving to some once emblematic Barcelona’s establishments, we invite you to visit 'Els 4 Gats', they will not disappoint you.

  4. Shithole - Mr Robertson (12 Nov 2013 - 09:45)

    I went there for dinner, all I got at the end of the night was 'the runs' the staff were very rude, they overcharged me - so I refused to pay the tab and walked out

  5. Great music! - Svetlana (28 Aug 2013 - 10:00)

    I was there in January 2013. Good food, good service, good wine and BEAUTiFUL music.
    I'm still trying to find other restaurants in Barcelona with that kind of live music...

  6. Wrong! - A Valencia (18 Jan 2013 - 09:00)

    Who ever wrote this review about els quatre gats is nuts!! This is one of the best places you can go in Barcelona, a place with history, quality and great environment. Expensive? perhaps, but absolutely trust-worthy.

    Shame on you for writing this terrible, untruth and wrong things about this wonderful place!

  7. 4 gats - patufet (26 Feb 2012 - 18:30)

    Service minable. Quelle déception. Bouffe dégueulasse et serveurs antipathiques. Pire expérience a Barcelone!

  10. Els Quatre Gats - pierre (24 Jul 2010 - 14:46)

    Bien d'accord avec votre commentaire... Els Quatre Gats est une totale cata... des fous!!!

  11. Very good food and friendly service (by catalans) - João Amaral (12 Aug 2008 - 23:30)

    We had dinner there yesterday. The food was very good and the service very friendly and efficient. The price was fair.

  12. Four Dead Cats - D Naugle (13 Aug 2007 - 01:04)

    We couldn't agree with the reviewer more. Depressing atmosphere, food, waitstaff and prices combined for our worst meal in Barcelona during two holidays. How is it possible in this city? Oh and they hawk their logo encrusted bric-a-brac for outlandish amounts. Stay away.

  13. A different and really nice evening - T. Aarrestad (6 Jun 2007 - 20:06)

    I had a lovely night at 4 gats! The food was ok, not great, but ok and the dessert was really good. But the atmosphere was unique and I really think I will go there again and bring my friends the next time I visit Barcelona just because of the athmosphere and the history living in the walls so to speak!
