During our unexpected layover in Barcelona, we were fortunate enough to find accommodation in a peaceful location that was still conveniently close to popular attractions. The receptionist, a charming gentleman, warmly welcomed us upon our early arrival in the morning. Though we were unable to check in at that time, he kindly offered to securely store our belongings until our room was ready. Thanks to him, we were able to settle in by 12:30 pm, much earlier than the usual check-in time. In addition to providing a map, he also suggested activities within walking distance to pass the time. His fluency in English was greatly appreciated, as we were unfamiliar with the city and our unexpected extended stay. While the room was clean and comfortable, it was truly the receptionist's exceptional service that earned this accommodation a top-notch rating.
The accommodation was immaculate and carefully managed. Breakfast was enjoyable and the staff were incredibly welcoming. However, as an older couple, two rooms were assigned to subsequent couples who were much younger than us for two nights and they had to be asked to be quiet at 4am and 6am respectively on separate occasions. It would be better if the hotel could be more mindful in terms of who they accommodate next to each other. It did ruin our stay.
Staying here with a group of 30 students as part of a summer excursion program, we found the hotel to be great value for money. It was easily accessible by metro once you familiarize yourself with the routes. The staff were friendly and the rooms were mostly clean, although their thin mattresses made sleeping quite uncomfortable. The bathrooms were quite small and dirty at first, and the elevators had a tendency to get stuck if you forgot your keycard. The breakfast spread was simple but good with croissants and fruit. All in all, it was a great budget option for a city vacation, provided you plan to be out and about most of the day.
We stayed for 4 nights over the Easter weekend ? and checkin went very smoothly. The location was great ? and the showers had a lot of power ? but other than that, there wasn't a lot of positives ?. The view from the top was nice, but that was solely because of the location. The room, number 204, had two main issues. Firstly, when anyone was using the water - showering, using the toilet, or even turning on a tap - you could hear it running in the room and that kept us awake most nights ?. Secondly, the cleaners were extremely loud early in the morning ?, which meant we didn't get a lot of sleep. There were also very hard mattresses ?, and some days there weren't enough towels? which we raised but no extra towels were brought up. The hotel itself was a bit run-down in places. Overall it was a mixed review, and quite expensive for what it was, basically you're just paying for the location ?.
Breakfast was OK.
I stayed at the Hotel Acta Azul Barcelona for 5 nights and had a great experience. The room was just the right size with a lovely big bathroom featuring a large shower. The bed was very comfortable and the cleaning was not great but it was ok. I was on the first floor so couldn't open the window which was annoying, but there didn't appear to be an extractor fan in the bathroom so I guess it's a trade-off. The hotel has 2 lifts which were both working perfectly. The gym wasn't amazing but it did offer some good views of the city from the top. Breakfast was quite standard but I found it satisfactory. All in all I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would recommend it to others.
