Mercat de la Concepció

For a great idea for a walk in the Eixample district, between the Sagrada Família and Barcelona city centre. Stop by the Mercat de la Concepció, which is only a 15-minute walk from Gaudi's masterpiece.

Mercat de la Concepció in Barcelona: A Flower and food market

The Mercat de la Concepcio is known as a flower market in Barcelona. For gardeners and those with a green thumb there are many varieties of flowers and seeds for your garden.

But it is also a food market with fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, meat, cold cuts... An ideal place to do your shopping in a much more local atmosphere than the famous Boqueria market, which is much visited by tourists.

The Mercat de la Concepció in Barcelona was built by the Catalan architect Antoni Rovira i Trias. Construction of the market began in 1888 and was completed in 1889. Rovira i Trias was a renowned architect of the Catalan modernist era and designed several iconic buildings in Barcelona, including the Mercat de Sant Antoni and the Mercat del Born. The Mercat de la Concepció is located in the Eixample district and is one of the most popular markets in the city, offering a variety of fresh and local products.

The Mercat de la Concepció in Barcelona was renovated between 2002 and 2005 to modernise the market's facilities and preserve its historical character. The renovation work improved the infrastructure, functionality and aesthetics of the market while preserving its original architecture.

Covered market. Very pleasant with the smell of flowers at the entrance. There are tables and chairs in the aisles so you can eat there. Coffee and potato tortillas available.
