EL Xalet Montjuic - Barcelona

"Up Montjuic hill, just next door to the spectacular Olympic pool where Kylie Minogue used to shoot her video clips, one of the most beautiful views of Barcelona.

Unfortunately chef and service of El Xalet do not fly that high. We had carpaccio of Bacall "no taste" ( 7 € ), Xupa-Xups de Foie "no fun" ( 17 € ), lobster "hard to eat" in its small plate ( 22 € ), Paella de Bacalla with beans "no big deal" ( 15 € ) Apple pie "not cooked" ( 9 € ).. Everything served by very awkward "waitresses" in spite of a posted goodwill.

Our advice: go there, book a table on the open space terrace, order the less expensive things and enjoy the great sights. The chart of the wines is perfect and the valet parking is a genius. LK

Fantastic views but what a shame about the food,I was treated to a meal out by my daughter whilst visiting at the end of June 2012, Starter was'nt too bad i had the Tuna Tartar could of had more flavour and even a slice of lemon for the price!! My main course was Veal Fillet with Chargrilled Red peppers,30euros!! It must of been just seared on both sides completley raw inside and served with a few seared tinned red peppers!!!My daughter who is fluent in Spanish complained,my steak was taken away and returned sliced in halve and still raw in the middle but ate it anyway,we complained again and were given our coffee free of charge!!WOW ,what a let down,will not be returning even for the view.

Visit on different days?
If we buy one ticket for the three casas, do we have to visit them all on the same day?

@John
Hello John, Yes, you can board the Aerobus A2 at Plaça Universitat before it reaches Plaça Catalunya to head to the airport. The Aerobus service (line A2) is specifically designed to connect the city center with Barcelona-El Prat Airport (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) efficiently. At Plaça Universitat, there is a designated Aerobus stop, so you can get on the bus there. Just make sure you are at the correct stop for the A2 line if you're heading to Terminal 2. If you’d like to check the route, schedule, and ticket information, you can visit this same page for Aerobus tickets. Let me know if you need more help planning your trip!

@alan
Hello alan, The closest Aerobús stop to Barcelona’s cruise port is Plaça Espanya. From there: Take the green metro line (L3) toward "Zona Universitària" and get off at Drassanes (two stops). Walk about 15 minutes to the World Trade Center (WTC). At the WTC, you’ll find a shuttle called the Cruise Bus that runs directly to the cruise terminals. The cost is approximately €4.50 round-trip. Best,

    Having visited this restaurant recently, I am well aware of what it has to offer. Despite the beautiful view overlooking the city, I regret to inform you that it has nothing else to offer. The staff were lacking attentiveness, and at one point in the evening the manager came over and outright insulted a member of staff by implying that he was a slave that would do anything he ordered of him. I don’t know about you, but I don’t respect this social status declaration, especially when I am sitting enjoying a conversation with the gentleman who is obviously just trying to earn a living.

    Regardless of what the above editor has to say, I completely disagree that the menu is worthy of a visit. In addition, just to top it all off, I suffered from food poisoning for the next week; and as a result ended up forking out 900 euros to reluctantly extend my stay in Barcelona on the hotel room, lost flights, rescheduled flights and so on. Words of advice; STAY AWAY!

    went Aug08 for special occasion. Sat on terrace, damp but warm evening. Food and service very good, definitely go again.

  4. Went with 10 friends - sutski (20 Jul 2007 - 10:16)

    Very mediocre lunch meal...I had a very scawny shank of kid goat that I would recommend avoiding and the other guys were not too impressed with their choices either. The view, the food presentation and the wine list make up for it though...worth a visit, but don't make it your "special meal of the trip". Staff were very attentive and the Tortilla "like grandma makes" starter was excellent, but hey, this is Spain so it should be !!!

    Great view of Barcelona by night.. food largely above the average.. go there..
