  2. Tasty & Delightful - Jamie & David (15 Jul 2012 - 10:45)

We were staying at the Hotel Axel and the concierge recommended this simply welcoming and comfortable restaurant that caters to its' clientele and more. From the service, to the appetizers and entrees, it was our best meal in the surrounding area, priced beautifully, oh, and the host/owner is easy on the eyes also~

  6. Fantastic place! - Amy & Jaime (15 Jun 2011 - 08:45)

I have to imagine that things have changed quite a bit since some of the earlier, negative reviews appeared here. We just had dinner at the Castro restaurant this past weekend and it was FANTASTIC. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service, and very good food. We arrived on the earlier side for Barcelona (about 8:45 p.m.) and were the first customers of the night - the server was friendly and welcoming, and even recommended a cava for us that was delicious and reasonably priced. We have recommended the Castro to good friends and will be sure to return when we head back to Barcelona. Two thumbs up!

  7. bueno - jm (27 Jul 2008 - 11:40)

  8. Disappointing, and then a roach. - Kurosaki Ichigo (26 Jun 2008 - 09:11)

Contrary to the description in one of the Barcelona guides I picked up upon arrival, the waiters at Castro were not dressed in black leather. Also did not see the "aphrodisiac menu" on offer.

Anyway, I had the fettuccine with vegetables, which was a little on the bland side. The chicken stuffed with apples and raisins with curry sauce was better, although a little overdone. Partner had a decent beetroot gazpacho. Tuna steak was also overdone, but almost there in terms of quality. Wine recommended by the waiter was satisfactory.

Unfortunately, our dining experience was ruined when a cockroach appeared. The table next to ours called it to the waiter's attention, but his response was apparently that it was the first roach he's seen in a year. He then used a napkin to brush the roach onto a floor, still alive and crawling around. Yucks.

  9. Rice no too good - Antonnio (4 Jun 2008 - 07:01)

Hi, i liked the atmosphere, but food was quite normal, and even though we had no wine, the bill was high 148 euros (3 persons). Service was good. Maybe the restaurant is too small and has no windows at all! RIce was too cooked, and fish wasn't fresh. Sorry.

  13. Very average food - Martin M UK (20 Aug 2007 - 11:16)

Very original decor however if you're main objective is really nice food then Castro is not the best choice. The food is very average and definitely overpriced.

  14. Castro - Reon Nettenbreijers (27 Mar 2006 - 19:02)

One of the best Gay restaurants in the world. We travel at least 4 x per year from Amsterdam to Barcelona to have dinner in Castro!
