In the heart of the Eixample, two blocks from the Plaça de Catalunya and five minutes walking from Casa Batlló, lies Monvínic, Barcelona's wine bar reference and gourmet restaurant.

A design decoration for a rare place that imagines itself as a cultural wine centre and succeeds in combining a cuisine full of imagination made of seasonal products and inventive juxtapositions with a wine cellar open to all the best winegrowers in the world, on the sole condition that they are outstanding, a condition decreed by Isabelle Brunet, former sommelier of Ferran Adrià.

The wine bar, elegantly lighted, provides you with an interactive map of the cellar. You can choose your wine intuitively thanks to geographical maps, descriptions of wine growers such as vintages, grape varieties, terroirs... But don't panic with this electronic tool, it is still the sommeliers who speak best of their wines and will confirm your choices.

Every day about forty bottles are opened for tasting by the glass (between 7 and 10€ on average). Wines that come from all over the world with a beautiful place reserved for natural wines and in any case for winegrowers who make efforts to limit or even eliminate the sad "inputs".

Ask for Erik Rosdahl's Jumilla (escombro or autoretrato), or Ismael Gozalo's wines from Valladolid. It will also be necessary to taste natural wines of Galicia..

A real initiatory journey into the land of "good people" and unknown aromas. Dazzling.

At the bar you can enjoy these discoveries with tapas or with a remarkable lunch menu at 19,50€ with a glass of wine.

In the restaurant, you must let yourself be guided by Ariadna Julian and his menu "El fil d'Ariadna" (80€) or choose a la carte dishes of the seasons that invariably invite you to discover new wines.

Notable in this season: the spring vegetables cocotte (15€), mussel and pistachio ravioli with saffron (21€). The menu changes every month.

Gastronomes curious about great wines have found their refuge!

Monvinic has been a hang-out of ours in Barcelona for a decade or so. It could be the best winebar on Earth (I've visited several hundred). It dazzles with the three "Ss"...setting, service and selection. The selection is most remarkable because it goes beyond its country and locale in that you can get more here than Priorat, Penedes and Cava. There are Bierzo, Albarino, Rioja, Duero, etc. Outside Spain there are some; even Barolo and Vosne-Romanee for instance. Anyway, Monvinic certainly heightens the Barcelona experience. The food is good too, though not up to other restos such as Carme's Moments, Berasatgui's place and the Adria starts.
