In a former palace built in 1929
The Miramar is housed in a former palace built in 1929, when Barcelona was celebrating its second Universal Exhibition. Restored in 2006 it kept its avant-garde décor and a broad range of services. You will appreciate the large garden and the modern Mediterranean cuisine restaurant called the Forestier.

During our recent stay, it was clear that this establishment has seen its fair share of traffic over the years. Unfortunately, it seems that necessary updates and repairs have been overlooked. The furniture was noticeably scratched and the closet doors did not close properly. We also encountered torn deck dividers and non-functioning toiletries that were too small to even pour. Though we were pleased with the friendly and attentive service from the front desk, restaurant servers, and bar staff, we did have an issue with being overcharged for a taxi. It appeared that the customer-facing employees were well trained, but the maintenance and upkeep of the hotel fell short. To be honest, this level of quality is more fitting for a 2-star hotel.
The positives of the hotel were a spacious room with beautiful views, comfortable beds, and modern bathrooms. The staff were incredibly friendly and provided exceptional service. Unfortunately, the pleasant experience ended there. Upon arrival, a strong and unpleasant odor permeated the entire hotel, including the corridors and guest rooms. It was suffocating and difficult to ignore. The heating in the room took three days to fix and even then, the temperature wasn't optimal. The constant rattling of the heating system at night was disruptive and resembled an old, malfunctioning engine. The furniture was dirty and stained, with chipped side tables and mismatched pieces. The carpets were worn and the wallpapers were either stained or torn. The exterior pillars were also broken, giving a rundown appearance. Additionally, the breakfast was subpar for a supposed 5-star hotel. The overpowering smell was impossible to overlook and marred the entire stay.
Our one-night stay was made enjoyable by the hotel's convenient location near the cruise ship terminal. Our room was spacious and well-furnished, offering a beautiful view of the sea. We also had dinner at the hotel's restaurant, which had a banquet-like setup and slightly worn furniture. However, the food was delicious and the portion sizes were generous. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant and the hotel's location near a picturesque park added to its charm. Although it may seem far from the city's main attractions, it is actually fairly close and would make for a peaceful retreat after a busy day of exploring Barcelona.
This hotel was not at all what we expected. The pictures are misleading and the level of service was terrible. During our stay with my partner, we returned to our room in the evening to find the door wide open, despite leaving it closed in the morning. When we brought this security issue to the attention of the staff, they simply brushed it off with a smile, and one male staff member even accused us of leaving the door open ourselves. They offered no solution and seemed offended by our concerns. This hotel is a complete joke. I strongly advise against staying here. The cleanliness of the rooms, outdoor pool, and spa was lacking. It was surprising to see that a prestigious brand like l’Occitane would associate themselves with such a dull, dusty, and worn out spa. The maid service was also pointless. Upon arrival, we found a dead moth on the bathroom floor which remained there for our entire stay. The room was constantly dusty.
This accommodation does not meet the standards of a five-star facility, and I have my doubts about its supposed four-star rating. It seems like the positive reviews may have been paid for. The condition of the rooms and other areas, away from the main reception and bars, is subpar, with noticeable dirt and wear and tear. Despite the good view, the location is inconveniently far from the city center, requiring frequent taxi rides. On top of that, I witnessed a seagull disturbing the pool and the staff showed no concern. The service at this hotel is a joke - phone calls go unanswered and there is often no one available at the spa reception. I even got stuck on the roof and received no assistance from the unresponsive staff. The breakfast, which other reviews have praised, was disappointing with stale croissants, undercooked sausage, and limited hot options. Do yourself a favor and avoid staying here, as there are much better options available in the area.
