Gimeno, our favourite civet, has changed its name to mark its 100th birthday. Domingo Cigars is now located at the same address, and we'd like to wish it another century!
Domingo Cigars, the oldest cigar shop in Spain
It's good news, in this age of hygienist tartufery, to see a true craftsman pursuing his passion, that of knowing how to store and then explain all the subtleties of cigars.
It has to be said that Domingo Cigars, formerly Gimeno, is Spain's oldest cigar shop, founded in 1920! Quite a benchmark, and a wealth of irreplaceable expertise. Because, yes, you can't just invent a trip into the cellar - it's a profession. It's the process of ageing cigars in a cellar to improve their flavour over time. The result is called vintage...
Domingo Cigars is still a tobacconist selling all tobacco products, such as cigarettes, pipes and other related items like lighters, ashtrays and so on.
But cigar aficionados will want to head down to the basement, to the oldest cigar cellar in the country... A marvel of scents and pure pleasure, with the latest arrivals from Havana and the rest of the world.
We know that a lot of cigars go to China, where the market is booming, but don't worry, here you'll find your favourite vitolas and brands, as well as the latest limited editions.
If you're on Barcelona's Rambla, look for No. 100, not far from the Boqueria Market! For the hygienists, it's on the opposite pavement.
