EL Xalet Montjuic - Barcelona

"Up Montjuic hill, just next door to the spectacular Olympic pool where Kylie Minogue used to shoot her video clips, one of the most beautiful views of Barcelona.

Unfortunately chef and service of El Xalet do not fly that high. We had carpaccio of Bacall "no taste" ( 7 € ), Xupa-Xups de Foie "no fun" ( 17 € ), lobster "hard to eat" in its small plate ( 22 € ), Paella de Bacalla with beans "no big deal" ( 15 € ) Apple pie "not cooked" ( 9 € ).. Everything served by very awkward "waitresses" in spite of a posted goodwill.

Our advice: go there, book a table on the open space terrace, order the less expensive things and enjoy the great sights. The chart of the wines is perfect and the valet parking is a genius. LK

Fantastic views but what a shame about the food,I was treated to a meal out by my daughter whilst visiting at the end of June 2012, Starter was'nt too bad i had the Tuna Tartar could of had more flavour and even a slice of lemon for the price!! My main course was Veal Fillet with Chargrilled Red peppers,30euros!! It must of been just seared on both sides completley raw inside and served with a few seared tinned red peppers!!!My daughter who is fluent in Spanish complained,my steak was taken away and returned sliced in halve and still raw in the middle but ate it anyway,we complained again and were given our coffee free of charge!!WOW ,what a let down,will not be returning even for the view.

@Dan
Hello Dan! Yes, the T-casual ticket (which allows 10 journeys) is NOT a multi-person ticket. It is valid for one person only, meaning it cannot be shared between two travelers. Each person would need their own T-casual ticket. If you want a multi-person option, you should go for the T-usual (unlimited travel for 30 days, personal) or the T-grup (70 journeys for multiple users). Let me know if you need more details!

@John
Hello John, Yes, you can board the Aerobus A2 at Plaça Universitat before it reaches Plaça Catalunya to head to the airport. The Aerobus service (line A2) is specifically designed to connect the city center with Barcelona-El Prat Airport (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) efficiently. At Plaça Universitat, there is a designated Aerobus stop, so you can get on the bus there. Just make sure you are at the correct stop for the A2 line if you're heading to Terminal 2. If you’d like to check the route, schedule, and ticket information, you can visit this same page for Aerobus tickets. Let me know if you need more help planning your trip!

@alan
Hello alan, The closest Aerobús stop to Barcelona’s cruise port is Plaça Espanya. From there: Take the green metro line (L3) toward "Zona Universitària" and get off at Drassanes (two stops). Walk about 15 minutes to the World Trade Center (WTC). At the WTC, you’ll find a shuttle called the Cruise Bus that runs directly to the cruise terminals. The cost is approximately €4.50 round-trip. Best,

  1. Montjuic El Xalet - wine4dine (4 Mar 2011 - 10:45)

    The place has a fantastic view over Barcelona. Waiters were very attentive and polite, but unfortunately not one of them was speaking english. Nevertheless we managed at last to order (as I wrote before, they are very friendly). The food was not bad but also nothing special. Very and I mean really very small portions and extremly expensive, i.e. angus brochette were 3 tiny bits of meat with 2 halfs of a strawberry on a skewer, and that for nearly 30 Euro.
    I would recommend to go there just for the view, have a coffee and go somewhere else for dining.

    une terrasse et une vue sur Barcelone assez dingue... ne pas hésiter!!

  3. El Xalet - Nadia (7 May 2009 - 23:18)

    The best time to go there is close to the sunset so that you can see the city in a daylight and at night. The food is good, espesially rizotto with mushrooms, spinach and raisins, the waiters are very attentive. No doubt this is one of the best places to enjoy good food with a wonderful panaroma of Barcelona.

  4. Not bad, not great! - ChaseEater (30 Apr 2009 - 17:57)

    I booked a table for two here primarily for the views - and we were not disappointed... we arrived just before sunset and were able to watch the city light up.

    However, the food and service did not live up to expectation - and the prices really were extortionate!

    My girlfriend enjoyed her starter, but mine was a little too salty - for main we shared sea bass - it was very good, although served with just a handfull vegetables and cost about 65EUR!

    Desert... I had creme brulee for 11EUR - it was nice, but expensive...

    We had several different waiters serving - all friendly but I did feel that the basics weren't done or not properly at least. For example, it took three attempts and three waiters to get the right spoon for my creme brulee... it's very distracting to have someone coming to the table every few minutes whilst I try to enjoy the fab company of my girlfriend and the views of Barcelona!

    Nevermind - with wine it was almost 200EUR and over all it was a nice evening... but as mentioned above - go for the view and order the cheapest food on the menu!! And don't order desert because they'll give you the wrong spoon!

    View is incredible, and food are really fine... They are getting better and better...

  6. xalet worth it - jasper (24 Apr 2006 - 14:20)

    Your comment on the Xalet is quite harsh.. The view is incredible, waitresses seem to handle there job now and food is quite creative for this price.. Far better than many others restaurants in Barcelona. My advice: go there it worth it!!
